Baladi also refers to the authentic working-class (mainly from urban areas) and their social dance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bedlah<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Bedlah is a bra and skirt costume commonly associated with belly dance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bint al balad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(also sometimes spelled Bint el Balad) daughter of the country, or daughter of the town; an urban working-class woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ghawazee (sing. Ghaziya)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ghawazee are Sinti gypsies from Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Haram<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Haram means forbidden, sinful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kabareh<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A kabareh is a nightclub, but with negative connotations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kanoun<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A kanoun is a string instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nay is a musical instrument, a type of flute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Raqs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The word Raqs in Arabic means &#8216;dance&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Raqs sharqi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the term Raqs sharqi translates as oriental dance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sagat<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sagat means finger cymbals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Saidi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saidi means from Upper Egypt. Also, a type of musical rhythm originated from Upper Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sala<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sala is one of the nightclubs in which raqs sharqi was first developed in Cairo in the 1920s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shaabi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shaabi is a term that refers to \u2018of the people\u2019, popular. Associated with urban working classes from Cairo and a type of music, which has often playful or political connotations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shamadan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a candelabrum with lit candles, which the performer balances on her head whilst dancing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sharqi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sharqi means oriental (literally, of the east).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shika (plural shikhat)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Morocco, a female dancer performs at rites of passage such as marriages or circumcision rituals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tahtib<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tahtib is combat activity from Upper Egypt using sticks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tarab<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tarab is enchantment or ecstasy. In the field of performing arts, it refers to the feeling produced by music and is often conveyed visually by the dancer to the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zeffa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A zeffa is a procession.
