Research<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/nav><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Introduction\"><\/span>Introduction<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this section, I will describe how I have analyzed the data for this research, from breaking down the data into codes and themes to reassembling these into the presentation of results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I will explain the analysis process for the videos and for the other sources of data in two separate sections, as the type of data was different for each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Analytical_Bricoleur\"><\/span>Analytical Bricoleur <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the types of analysis I carried out for videos and written texts were different, I acted as what Sparkes and Smith (2014, p. 115) define as an \u2018analytical <a href=\"https:\/\/literariness.org\/2016\/03\/21\/claude-levi-strauss-concept-of-bricolage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bricoleur<\/a>\u2019, that is someone who uses different types of analysis, but maintains an epistemologically and ontologically coherent position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I used visual analysis for the videos and thematic analysis for the notes derived from observing the videos, as well as from the interviews transcripts and the other written texts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Thematic_Analysis\"><\/span>Thematic Analysis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Thematic analysis\u2019, according to Sparkes and Smith (2014, p. 124-127), seeks patterns (themes) emerging from the data, but without trying to quantify them and \u2018writing is openly part of the analysis\u2019 (p. 125).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I found that, as I wrote the results, new ideas and connections between sets of data emerged, and indeed, as Maykut and Morehouse (1994, p. 145) posit, \u2018writing up one\u2019s research is part of the analytic process\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ongoing_Activity_Research\"><\/span>Ongoing Activity Research<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As with most qualitative research, the analysis was \u2018conducted as an early and ongoing research activity\u2019 (Maykut and Morehouse, 1994, p. 123), and the analysis began as soon as I started collecting the data, regardless of the type of data being analyzed. Indeed, as Marshall and Rossman (2010, p. 208) point out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In qualitative studies, data collection and analysis typically go hand in hand to build a coherent interpretation.
